Sunday Service: Easter and Spring and Change

Spring is a time for change, for awakening after a long dark time. Easter, among other things, is a celebration of that awakening. A long time ago, the new year happened in April, not January. It seems fitting that the new year begin in April, in spring, in the time of new beginnings for the whole world (my apologies to the southern hemisphere). A time of change all around seems like a good time for new year’s resolutions, too.

I have scraps of songs and sayings and poems running through my head:

Be the change you want to be in the world. (Ghandi)

When your heart is in a holy place (a hymn by the same name)

Go with your love to the fields. (Wendell Berry)

I cannot tell you what they all mean, but I feel myself growing and changing with the spring.

Tuesday Treasure: Sale! And Purple Roses on Yellow Tassel

Celebrate spring and Easter with this lovely purple and yellow tassel.

I just realized today that I have just over 200 hearts in my Etsy shop! To celebrate, I am offering 15% off everything in my shop through tomorrow, April 4. Use coupon code 200HEARTS at checkout from Lizbeth’s Garden.

The purple and yellow tassel pictured to the left makes me think of Easter dresses, and Easter eggs, and having an Easter egg hunt in the crisp morning air of a springtime day. I remember the Easter egg hunts of my childhood in New Mexico, always in the front yard (because most of the backyard was sand and the little plots of grass in the backyard were always living too much on the edge of dying from no water to be walked on) and the sky was clear and a brilliant blue. The air was actually damp, often, which was a treat in the dry desert air. We ran around, finding the eggs under bushes and lying in the grass. Once, an egg was hidden in the fork of the tree trunk. Only once, because it was too high for us to reach and my brother tried to shimmy up the trunk holding his Easter basket. My dad lifted the egg down, instead.

I hope this tassel brings back your Easter memories, too.

Tuesday Treasure: Easter is Coming

Easter is coming, and I have tassels for Easter!

In the store right now is a purple and white tassel with a silver cross.

Coming soon are lots of ornament tassels (2 inches long) in pastel colors with matching sparkly eggs.

And everyone loves chicks, right?

These cute guys are going on tassels, too.

Don’t forget to check out Lizbeth’s Garden on Etsy for lots of unique beaded tassels!

Giveaway to celebrate my 500th post

Update: The giveaway is over, and we have a winner! Find out who here!

Yesterday, Wednesday July 13, was my 500th post on this blog. To celebrate, I am going to give away a handmade paper mache Easter egg from my Zibbet store.

Read the description of the Easter egg.

The winner will get to choose the colors of their egg. The options are (outside/inside):

  • Pink/orange
  • Aqua/purple
  • Cream/blue

The winner must also agree that I can post pictures of the making of their egg.

How to enter:
Visit my Zibbet store, pick your favorite item, then come back here to this post and leave a comment with the name of your favorite item. Include an email address where I can reach you to notify you if you win.

The last day to enter will be Thursday, July 21. A winner will be announced on Friday, July 22.

If you win, you agree to choose the colors of your egg, provide a shipping address so you can receive your egg, and allow me to post pictures of the creation of your egg. Failure to do any of the above will result in forfeiture of your prize.

I will choose the winner by randomly drawing a name from a pot of all the commenters’ names. I will ship the winner a handmade hollow Easter egg as described here within one month of the end of the contest period (by August 22, 2011). Shipping will take 1-4 weeks, so the winner can expect to receive their egg by September 22, 2011.
