I enjoyed this book, the second in the series by Rose Melikan, very much. It was much easier to follow than the first one. The motives of the characters were transparent to the reader, at least, if not the other characters. I enjoyed not being kept in the dark so much as in The Blackstone Key.
The end sees Mary Finch and Robert Holland reconciled, which was nice. He encourages her to have further Adventures, although she seems a little hesitant, so I was wondering if there would be a third book. But the last page of the book says that The Mistaken Wife is coming out in 2010, so that’s something to look forward to next year.
I have been enjoying these books very much, although not enough to go out and buy them to read again. If the third one improves on the second as much as the second did on the first, I think I will reconsider.
All in all, a fun read. 4 out of 5 stars (on a completely arbitrary scale).
